What a lousy stretch of Yankees baseball this has been. It somehow feels even worse than the stretch to start the season. For most of May, it had seemed like the players had turned a corner and put their early April woes behind them. Now, the Yankees look worse than ever, as the offense that often struggled to dent home plate even in the winning times now looks positively anemic. They insist that they’ll get better soon, but even if they steal a 2-1 or 1-0 game here or there, they’re ultimately not going anywhere unless the lineup’s big bats snap out of this funk and they can’t just keep running the same unsuccessful formula out there.
Anyway, the Yankees’ slumping bats get to face Rays ace Tyler Glasnow today. So, uh, good freakin’ luck.
Today on the site, Dan will have the minor league highlights for the past week and Cooper will post a new Brian Cashman approval poll now that May is over. Later on, Kunj will explain why the struggling Yankees are still benefiting from Rob Manfred’s attempts to “fix” baseball, and Josh will dive into Gleyber Torres’ power outage. Finally, Cooper will return to close out the day with a trip down memory land about some Yankees who were once allowed to walk away for nothing, only to recharge their careers elsewhere.
