New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros: Jordan Montgomery vs. Luis Garcia

Expect more boos tonight as the Yankees host an AL rival for game two.

MLB: Houston Astros at New York Yankees Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

If the Bronx is still abuzz after last night’s series opener, Yankees fans will get their chance to keep the stadium humming as New York welcomes the Houston Astros for the second game of this three-game series tonight. After taking the first contest yesterday by a score of 7-3, the Yankees send their crafty lefty to the hill.

Jordan Montgomery had an up-and-down April, finishing the month with an ERA+ of 90 and his lowest K-BB% since 2018. Too many walks and too many home runs have had him behind the eight-ball early in starts, but a good showing tonight against a tough Astros lineup would go a long way in re-establishing my confidence in him, and surely his own confidence.

Luis Garcia takes the ball for the Astros, the definition of a hard-luck loser in 2021. He’s 0-4 on the season, despite a 2.70 ERA and striking out about a quarter of the batters he faces. He will issue walks, but his cutter-slider combination suppresses a lot of hard contact and forces a lot of ground balls.

Fortunately, there is no ESPN broadcast today (just the ESPN+ stream, if you subscribe).
