New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers: Michael King vs. Tarik Skubal

It’s been a pretty brutal stretch for the Yankees. After ending last week by sweeping the White Sox, a spate of injuries sucked the air out of the room, and the ensuing games have been brutal.

They lost two of three to the Blue Jays, which, while annoying since it continued a trend of poor play against AL East opponents, did come against a good team. You cannot say that for the Tigers, who have taken the first two games of this series. After two brutal days, the Yankees will try to avoid a sweep in today’s finale.

Thanks to the Corey Kluber injury, the Yankees have moved their rotation around a bit, leading to today being a Michael King start/likely bullpen day. King began his season with 12.1 scoreless innings across four outings, but has gone through some regression as of late. He’s allowed five in 7.1 innings since May 13th.

Backing him up will be a fairly strong lineup, when you factor in who’s on the injured list anyway. Other than Tyler Wade in center field and experimenting with Miguel Andújar at first base, it’s pretty much the strongest possible lineup the Yankees could currently name, whatever that means.

As for the Tigers, Tarik Skubal will take the mound.

Go Yankees, go baseball.
