This weekend has gone well for the Yankees. They’ve outscored the Tigers 16-4 in taking the first two games of this series, and now stand poised to notch their first series sweep of the season. Toeing the slab and going for the sweep is Corey Kluber, who just put up his best start of the year earlier in the week against Baltimore.
In fact, before the game starts, you might want to take a look at Peter’s breakdown of Kluber’s outing, in particular his refined command of his breaking pitches. Kluber has always been a pitcher that relies on his curve and slider to fool hitters, if those pitches are finally coming back, he starts to look real good on the mound.
José Ureña apparently pitches for the Tigers now, which was news to me. He’s pitched fairly well for Detroit, with a 3.77 ERA in April, albeit with underwhelming strikeout numbers. The Yankee offense is humming lately, and Giancarlo Stanton and Gio Urshela are back after the off day yesterday, so he’ll need to be on his game today to keep that ERA down.
