The Yankees seek a rebound in Texas after an unexpected loss.

You never expect that Gerrit Cole could actually struggle against the 2021 Texas Rangers. Sure, you might acknowledge that in the 100 matrix simulations of yesterday’s game, Cole won’t win every single one, but still — why would one think that one of the rare losses would be coming up? Oh well. Even peak Pedro Martínez occasionally lost a game or two to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Cole’s buddy, Jameson Taillon, will try to pick him up tonight. Meanwhile, on the site, Dan will do the second edition of the Yankees weekly prospect review (in lieu of a games recap since there were none in the minors yesterday), and Kevin will focus on another Baby Bomber of note: Estevan Florial, who was recently promoted to Triple-A. Later, Tom will write about the Yankees’ weaknesses up the middle, Cooper will take a stab at offering technical hitting suggestions for what Gary Sánchez can do to keep improving, and Jon will post his interview with former Yankees strength and conditioning coach Jeff Mangold.

Today’s Matchup:

New York Yankees at Texas Rangers

Fun Questions:

1. Now that Luke Voit has homer No. 1 out of the way, how many will he end up with in 2021?

2. Assuming he returns tonight, does Rougned Odor have a revenge homer in his bat against the Rangers?
