The Yankees have taken care of business this weekend in Baltimore, outscoring the Orioles 13-6 while taking the first two games of the series. We’re due for a sweep though, and today is as good a day as any to get it.
Jordan Montgomery leads the charge, having lowered his ERA below four following a stellar six-inning showing against the Rays earlier this week. That ERA sits at 3.96, which is solid, but a 101 ERA+ in the New Year of the Pitcher. He can improve on it further with a good outing today, facing an Orioles squad he’s seen twice this year already. In those previous two starts, he’s mustered a 1.64 ERA and .579 OPS against.
Meanwhile, the Yankees catch a break with no John Means going, as the Orioles decided to give their ace a couple extra days’ rest. They’ll counter with swingman Adam Plutko, generally better at relief than at starting.
