Every game this early into a young season is anticipated, but tonight’s is especially so. Tonight will see the Yankees’ debut of pitcher Jameson Taillon, who will also be making his first appearance since 2019.

Taillon has been out since May 2019, having undergone Tommy John surgery later that year. The Yankees then acquired him in a trade with the Pirates in the offseason, reuniting him with his friend Gerrit Cole. The Yankees have been careful with him so far, waiting until the sixth game of the season for his first start of the season. He was especially impressive in spring training, allowing just one run in 8.1 innings.

Supporting him is a bit of a different lineup than what we’ve seen so far this season. Aaron Judge is getting the night off due to soreness in his side. According to Aaron Boone, this is just precautionary with the Yankees not wanting to push it right before an off day.

As for the Orioles, they’re sending John Means to the mound. In Baltimore’s season opener, Means threw seven shutout innings, albeit against a Red Sox team that hasn’t exactly been impressive so far this season.

Go Yankees, go baseball.
