The Yankees return to town after a 5-3 road trip to face the Detroit Tigers. One cannot help but feel that they left a win or two on the table, but signs point to an offense on the mend, and we’ll hope that trend continues against the last-place Tigers.

Gerrit Cole has been near-immaculate through his first five starts. His 50 strikeouts are the most for any Yankees starter through the first five outings to start a season. On the year he is 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA and a 42 percent strikeout rate in 31.2 innings.

Aaron Judge returns to the lineup after sitting out the last two games (minus one at bat) while dealing with lower-body soreness. Kyle Higashioka continues to catch Gerrit Cole, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep up his newfound offensive acumen.

Tigers rookie Tarik Skubal takes the mound. The hard-throwing lefty has struggled in five games (three starts) this year, going 0-3 with a 5.21 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 19 innings.

As for the Tigers, Miguel Cabrera is one hit away from tying Babe Ruth on the career hits list. Additionally, Akil Baddoo has been one of the most exciting rookies in the league, though he has cooled off some after his scorching start blasting home runs in the first two games of the season.
