The Yankees had a pretty good time in Cleveland, I’d say. Sure, the long weekend didn’t end with a sweep like everybody hoped, but very few things end perfectly — just ask Game of Thrones fans!
There’s no rest on this road trip, as the team stars a four-game set against the Baltimore Orioles this evening. After an up-and-down spring that saw him strike out 33 batters in 34.1 innings but also walk eight and give up six homers, Deivi García will make his first start of the season today. Up until now, he has been at the alternate site, where he last pitched one week ago, in a matchup in Allentown against the Alt-Phillies.
García will be going up against former Mets phenom Matt Harvey (1-1, 5.12 ERA), who will be making his fourth start of the season. Over the past two seasons, he has been nothing short of a disaster, posting a 7.82 ERA (6.86 FIP) in 71 innings, striking out 49, walking 34, and allowing 19 home runs. It’s still early, but despite the high ERA, he has been a respectable, Major League pitcher: in 19.1 innings, Harvey has struck out 16 batters while walking only 3, and has only given up two home runs (giving him a FIP of 3.41). His last time out, he recorded his first win since July 2019, giving up three runs on eight hits in five innings.
After receiving yesterday off, DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Hicks, and Clint Frazier are all back in the starting lineup. Giancarlo Stanton will be in the two hole for the fourth straight game and the seventh time this season, Birthday Boy Aaron Judge will hit third, and Rougned Odor will bat cleanup for the second straight game.
