New York Yankees @ Cleveland: Jameson Taillon vs. Triston McKenzie

This weekend has gone about as well as possible for the Yankees. The offense got into stride in the first two games, and last night Gerrit Cole outdueled Shane Bieber to deliver the team’s third straight win. The team isn’t all the way back, but a four-game sweep on the road would feel awful good, and behind Jameson Taillon on Sunday, that’s exactly what the Yankees can do.

Taillon is coming off his best start of the young season on Tuesday against Atlanta, striking out five, walking one, and allowing a single run in five innings of work. His control has been terrific in 2021, he’s induced a lot of soft contact, and the big question now is how deep can he go in games. He’s topped out at 84 pitches so far this year, hopefully with a strong start the Yankees will let him get up to 90 today.

Triston McKenzie will counter for Cleveland, yet another in the long line of talented young starters the franchise seems to churn out at will. McKenzie’s struck out 18 in 12.2 innings this season, but in the only time he’s seen the Yankees, they put up 2 runs in 1.2 innings in last year’s postseason.
