Last year in Game One of the Wild Card Series against Cleveland, the Yankees took on the man who would eventually be named AL Cy Young winner, and came out victorious. Facing Shane Bieber, the Yankees knocked him out after 4.2 innings and tagged him for seven runs, after a regular season where he had allowed 14 earned runs total.
That would’ve been enough offense for many pitchers, but it was especially enough considering who the Yankees had on the mound. One of the reasons the Yankees signed Gerrit Cole was for big playoff starts, and he delivered that day. Cole struck out 13, while allowing two runs in his seven innings.
Now nearly seven months later, the two aces will face off again today. After taking the first two games of the series, the Yankees will go for the series win tonight as the two star pitchers battle in Cleveland.
Behind Cole, the Yankees will run out a fairly similar to the one that clubbed four home runs yesterday. Some slight altering to the order, but the only incoming player is Kyle Higashioka at catcher.
Go Yankees, go baseball.
