In Golf, Hicks Doesn't Hit The Ball Like Happy Gilmore.

Hicks has great instincts as a center fielder and his glove reminds me of a little of Joe DiMaggio. I would sit in the bleachers and at the crack of the bat, DiMaggio would start to the exact place where the ball would come down making a difficult catch look easy. Hicks has a good eye at the plate, looking at his ability to draw so many walks, but seems to be unable to to find the empty spaces when he makes contact like Joltin Joe did. Maybe Hicks should take a page out of the Yankee Clipper's book and widen his stance and stop all that motion at the plate with a big leg kick when the pitch is delivered.

I remember at the home run hitting contest at one all star game that Albert Pujols, who always batted with a wide stance with hardly any stride like DiMaggio, was lifting his front leg in order to generate the power he needed for the long ball; if Hicks is doing the same thing for power, it is not showing up in his statistics of being a dominant home run hitter. When Judge came to the Yankees, he also had a more noticeable leg kick that he has now, and our best hitter today, LeMahieu, hardly moves his legs in the batter's box. If Hicks is listening, he should try to get his batting average up by altering his stance as in golf where he excels as an amateur, he doesn't swing at the ball like Happy Gilmore.
