Tough little stretch here for Yankees baseball. Not only have they suffered both a frustrating close loss and a lopsided loss, they’ve seen Aaron Judge felled by a mysterious bout of soreness and Gio Urshela sidelined after feeling some side effects from a COVID vaccine dose. As it goes with baseball, the games won’t stop, so they’ll have every chance to find some positive momentum. (Update: They’re both back in the lineup today. Phew.)
For today’s game, Domingo Germán will take the mound looking to put together a more consistent start than his first outing. He’ll face Chris Archer, with the veteran right-hander back with the Rays after a three-season sojourn in Pittsburgh. Archer’s first appearance of the season came in relief against the Marlins; he gave up three earned runs across two innings.
On the site, Cooper analyzes Gleyber Torres’ early-season troubles on defense, John previews the 2021 campaign for first baseman Chris Gittens, Andres discusses Jay Bruce’s slow start to the season, and Dan looks at the Yankees’ upper-level pitching depth on the farm.
