It’s been a long, cold winter, but spring has sprung in the Bronx! The Yankees begin their chase for the 28th World Series in franchise history, and it starts with an Opening Day showdown against their division rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays.
With 95 and 88 projected wins respectively, the Yankees and Jays are expected to be among the best teams in the AL this season, and we’ll get the first look at the race to the AL East division as Gerrit Cole faces Hyun Jin Ryu at 1:05pm Eastern. Cole posted a 2.84 ERA, 3.89 FIP and 26.7% K-BB% in 2020, while Ryu countered with a 2.69 ERA, 3.01 FIP and 20.0% K-BB%. The two biggest signees from the 2020 free agent class performed well in their first season with new teams, and will be counted on just as much in their sophomore campaigns.
Offensively, last year Clint Frazier had a 149 wRC+. Hw will bat ninth. That should give you an idea just how deep this lineup can be when everyone is healthy. Enjoy the game, friends.
