Jordan Montgomery works his second start of the spring as the Yankees take on the Phillies in Grapefruit League action from George Steinbrenner Field. One of Dan Szymborski’s breakout pitchers for 2021, Gumby will be expected to anchor the back of an otherwise fluid rotation, but there’s reason to believe his upside is greater than a mere 4-5 starter.
The Yankees dropped a 15-0 decision to the Phillies earlier this week, and while nobody cares about spring training records, for entertainment purposes hopefully this go around is a little more competitive. The lineup is certainly good enough to put runs up, with a 1-9 that wouldn’t look too bad in a regular season game, much less still in the first week of spring.
Andrew McCutchen, Didi Gregorius, and Bryce Harper are all in the game for the Phillies, giving them a pretty decent field of hitters to start the game as well.
