It’s a good thing that spring training games don’t count in the standings, because yesterday was a pretty brutal one for the Yankees, as they lost to the Phillies, 15-0. Today will hopefully provide some more palatable viewing as the Yankees take on the Tigers back in the friendly confines of Steinbrenner Field.
In today’s game, the Yankees are running out a lineup that we could conceivably see during the regular season. Seven of the nine fielders are people who will likely be regulars when Opening Day rolls around. Brett Gardner will be on the roster, and Miguel Andújar will almost certainly have some role this season, as will starting pitcher Domingo Germán. If this was the exact lineup for some random July game, it wouldn’t be shocking.
Meanwhile on the other side, we’ll get a look at the man the Tigers took #1 overall in last year’s MLB Draft: friend of Guy Fieri Spencer Torkelson.
