Last night, we got to see the Yankees’ ace, Gerrit Cole, make one last tune up start. Today, we’ll see a bit of a drop off, with the Yankees throwing out Jhoulys Chacín for their third-to-last exhibition matchup. Jameson Taillon was originally slated to take the ball, but the team decided to have the righty take his final spring tosses in a live BP scenario, rather than an actual game.
Chacín has made four appearances in camp, without making too much of an impact. He’s allowed four runs across 6.2 innings, striking out seven against three walks. He’ll face off with Blue Jays left-hander Anthony Kay. Kay represented half of Toronto’s haul from the Mets in the Marcus Stroman trade two summers ago. He’s a prospect of decent renown, and has allowed five hits and five runs in 11 innings this spring.
With this exhibition game in the afternoon following a night game, it’s no surprise the Yankees will trot out some reserves. Gleyber Torres, Clint Frazier, and Gio Urshela will represnt the starters in the lineup, but they’ll be accompanied with Tyler Wade in the leadoff spot, with Greg Allen, Mike Ford, and Estevan Florial further down the order.
