The home stretch is here for spring training, and that means the final auditions for several hopeful Yankees will commence. Michael King’s turn comes up here, and the right-hander is looking to convince Aaron Boone and company that he can eat some of the innings that the team will undoubtedly need to cover this year. King’s had a decent spring and can fit either as a spot starter or a long reliever, but he’ll get one more start to make his case.
On the other side is a former division foe in Matt Moore. The once-promising Rays prospect has never really found his footing outside of his early days in Tampa Bay, and he’s trying to make enough noise to break into the Phillies rotation after signing a one-year deal this offseason. So far he’s done well, and it seems like a bottom of the rotation slot is lined up for Moore.
The Yankees are taking this game as a serious tune up, since nearly all of their projected Opening Day starters are making the trip and starting tonight. Only Gary Sánchez gets a night off, with Kyle Higashioka subbed in to catch King.
