We are now almost exactly one week away from the beginning of the regular season, and end-game spring training is truly here. The starting lineup plays through several plate appearances. The pitchers go deeper into the game. The lineups fairly closely resemble something a team could use in a few weeks. We’re so close!
On the mound for today, the Yankees will give the ball to Deivi García. Last time out, García threw three scoreless innings against the Pirates. He walked four in the outing, but allowed no hits while striking out two. In total this spring, he’s allowed just 2 earned runs in 11 innings, with both coming in his first start of the spring. (Although, this Blue Jays team did pick up an unearned run off him back on the 14th.)
Behind him will be will be a team of players who will mostly be coming north at the end of spring training. Only Jay Bruce has any sort of question about him, and the top five in the order may very well be the exact top five we see on Opening Day.
As for the Blue Jays, Trent Thornton will take the hill.
