After a disappointing evening of no offense and bad pitching news from Justin Wilson, the Yankees hope to have a more normal spring contest this afternoon. They’ll be in Lakeland to take on the Tigers, and Corey Kluber will take the hill. The soon-to-be 35-year-old threw 54 pitches across four frames during his last appearance, and after a 60-pitch bullpen on Thursday, he should be ready for a longer outing.
Opposing Kluber will be Tarik Skubal, who was ranked by Baseball America as the 20th-best prospect in the game prior to the season. He didn’t pitch well during his 2020 debut, but the lefty has a bright future and will probably crack the Tigers’ Opening Day rotation.
Today, Skubal will get to face a Yankees lineup that definitely isn’t their A-club, though it still includes Luke Voit and Clint Frazier. In roster spot battle news, Jay Bruce didn’t travel with the club on Tuesday, but Mike Tauchman, Derek Dietrich, and Tyler Wade will all start.
