New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies: On the home stretch

The Yankees kick off the final week of spring ball under the lights

Opening Day is truly in sight, with just one full week of exhibition games left before they start to count for real. The final week begins tonight with the Yankees taking on the Phillies, and we’re rejoined by some old friends on the broadcast.

Just like last week, John Sterling and Michael Kay will be calling the game on YES. I thought they did a fine job last week, and while it might be nice to give them a game against a different opponent, maybe two straight calls with Philly will allow them to sharpen themselves up before the regular season starts.

On the field, Jameson Taillon gets the start, looking to continue his shutout streak in spring ball. He’s looked fantastic for the Yankees in his long return from Tommy John surgery, striking out nine in 5.2 innings of work, and showing much more heat and life on his fastball than we saw when he was a Pirate. Gerrit Cole is still the ace of this staff, but Taillon is looking more like a strong #2 every day.
