New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays: Cole train heads to Dunedin

The Yankees head west-ish to take on the Jays in spring ball

Gerrit Cole has been one of the worst pitchers for the Yankees this spring?

If there’s one narrative out of exhibition play, it’s been strong performances from Yankees on the mound, with several rostered players yet to surrender an earned run. Compared to them, Cole sports a garish 4.70 ERA, but I can’t imagine that he’s concerned about it. Regardless, he’ll have a chance to lower that metric today in a road contest with the Blue Jays.

The Yankees send out a half-serious lineup, with Derek Dietrich at the keystone. With Mike Ford sent to minor league camp, it got a little easier to imagine Dietrich breaking camp with the Yankees, but a lackluster spring and sitting more than 100 points of OPS behind Jay Bruce have been a setback for Derek’s chances.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays counter with a great lineup, and one that we’ll likely see in the regular season. It may be an exhibition game but Cole’s got major-league quality opponents to contend with.
