Pinstripe Alley Podcast Ep. 119: Lucas Luetge? Lucas Luetge.

Spring training is halfway over, and an unlikely name has emerged in wake of Zack Britton’s injury.

As the spring training schedule is now past the halfway point, it’s time for a new podcast episode to discuss the various goings-on. Setup man Zack Britton has unfortunately hit the injury shelf, and that loss is the first topic of discussion. The Yankees will miss his steady presence in the bullpen.

Fortunately, manager Aaron Boone (back and healthy after last episode’s scare) has a surprising new lefty perhaps ready to nab an open spot: Lucas Luetge, who has not pitched in the majors since 2015 and is almost 34. The fifth starter battle is also heating up with Domingo Germán and Deivi García, so we discussed how the Yankees might approach that roster decision.

Later on, we also talked about Jay Bruce staking his claim to a roster spot, how that throws Mike Tauchman and Tyler Wade into some peril. We then wrap up with some more injury talk, namely to the beleaguered Miguel Andújar and Robinson Chirinos (and Kyle Higashioka, to a lesser extent).

You can listen to the show on the web player below, or on any of your preferred podcast apps. As a reminder, if you were already subscribed to former host Ryan Chichester’s “Bomber Brothers” feed, then you’re good!
