The Yankees square off with the Phillies from Steinbrenner Field in Tampa today, and there are two main stories to follow in the exhibition tilt. On the field, Domingo Germán takes the hill for the third time this spring, yet to allow a run and boasting a 7:0 K:BB ratio in his first five innings. Following an excellent outing by Deivi García yesterday, the race for the final spot in the Yankee rotation is red hot, and Germán will get his chance to keep pace today.
Off the field, the game will feature Michael Kay and John Sterling broadcasting together for the first time since 2002, and John’s first time calling a game on TV. The two will be in the booth for today’s game and next Monday’s matchup with Philly. There are a whole host of Yankee fans, myself included, who have never heard a live call with Kay and Sterling together, and even if the game itself doesn’t matter, that will still be a cool part of the day.
