New York Yankees vs. Pittsburgh Pirates: Klubot in HD

The Yankees’ “big” free agent signing gets some TV time today

MLB: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

We’re getting to the point of spring where exhibition baseball can be tough to get through. The season is far enough away that we can’t look forward to it, and the excitement of fake baseball has started to dull. Still, there always seems to be at least one thing in every game worth watching, and today, it’s our first proper look at Corey Kluber.

Kluber, 34, was the Yankees’ “big” free agent signing over the winter after a lost 2020. He is emblematic of the high-upside roster decisions made around this pitching staff — if he is even close to his former self, he’s one of the best bargains in baseball, but there’s quite a cause for concern that he can’t recapture that magic.

However Kluber’s season plays out, his first start on TV comes today against the Pirates. He worked two innings last week against the Blue Jays, but in a game that wasn’t televised. Just like with Jameson Taillon, I’m salivating at the chance to see the veteran righty in action.

Offensively, the Yankees roll out a pretty good starting lineup, and one that will probably be seen more than once in the regular season as long as everyone stays healthy.
