The New York Yankees, coming off of an impressive power display on Wednesday night, will take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday afternoon, with the play ball voice expected to be heard at 1:05 p.m. ET.
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole will be on the mound to add more innings to his spring training total, with an eye on getting himself in top shape for the start of the regular season. So far, Cole has allowed three hits and one run in a frame of work in spring training. Ace Aaron Nola will take the ball for the Phillies.
It will be Cole’s second start of the spring, after pitching against the Detroit Tigers on March 1st in Tampa. He was scheduled to take the ball on March 6th in Bradenton, but the threat of rain ruined those plans and he was scratched.
First baseman Luke Voit will return to the lineup as a designated hitter after experiencing some knee soreness in the last couple of days. Aaron Hicks’s name is on the leadoff spot, where his excellent on-base skills and patience fit to perfection.
The Yankees won’t televise the game, but it will be available in Philly via NBC Sports Philadelphia (and on MLB.tv).
