After yesterday’s exhibition opener, the pinstripes are put away until Opening Day, but the Yankees are still the home team Monday afternoon, taking on the Detroit Tigers at George Steinbrenner Field in another pre-arranged seven inning game.
I’m looking forward to this game more than the one yesterday purely because of the guys scheduled to pitch. Gerrit Cole gets his first work in of the spring, and following him, manager Aaron Boone has tapped new Yankee Jameson Taillon. The two righties famously pitched together with the Pirates, and Taillon’s looking to get his career back on track in the Bronx. He’ll get his first chance to really establish himself with a strong outing today.
On the hitting side, we’ll see the competition for the bench heat up. Jay Bruce and Derek Dietrich are both in the starting lineup as the two are pretty much running head-to-head for a bench bat role.
How to watch:
Location: George M. Steinbrenner Field, Tampa, FL
First pitch: 1:05 p.m. EDT
