We have kept you posted on what the Yankees have been up to on social media ever since baseball shut down last March. We are one step closer to the baseball season as pitchers and catchers reported this past week. Here’s your weekly update on what your favorite Yankees have been doing on social media!
Gardner is back and his teammates are excited
Death, taxes, and Brett Gardner in pinstripes. After months of watching and waiting, the Yankees and veteran Brett Gardner have agreed on a contract that will bring him back to the Bronx for 2021. Did you have any doubt?
The news had many of his teammates (past and present) excited for his return, and they weren’t shy to express that on social media.

Year 14 for Gardy in the Bronx. Time to get him another ring!
Paxton says goodbye to New York
While Gardy is returning to the team, the Yankees said goodbye to James Paxton, who is returning to Seattle on a one-year deal. He was brought over to the Yanks in 2019 in exchange for Justus Sheffield, Erik Swanson and Dom Thompson-Williams. In his two seasons in pinstripes from 2019-2020, Paxton started 34 regular season games with a 4.16 ERA over 171 innings. His most memorable moment with the Yankees was his start against the Houston Astros in Game Five of the 2019 ALCS. His 112 pitches that game was the most by any Yankee pitcher that season. He allowed just four hits while striking out nine over six innings. The Yankees won the game 4-1. Thanks for the last two season, James. Good luck in Seattle!
Thank you to the @Yankees and their fans for such a special experience over the last two years. It didn’t close out the way I wanted it to, but I will always be grateful for my time in the Bronx.

Taillon’s reflects on his first day with the Yankees
Jameson Taillon seems to already be a fan favorite among the Yankees fanbase. He likes to joke around and has fun on the field. During his first day in pinstripes, Taillon said he took a picture of himself in his uniform because it felt so cool. Seems like he’s just as excited as we are to see him out on the mound.
Special feeling putting on the pinstripes for the first time and getting to work! Time to go home and make flash cards to help remember everyone that I’ve met so far pic.twitter.com/gFd2laVtUF

After officially departing the Yankees in the offseason to return to his original Rakuten team in the NPB, Masahiro Tanaka made his spring debut with the Eagles over the weekend. As pitchers and catchers reported to Yankees camp, 2019 teammate Gerrit Cole reflected on Tanaka’s departure and wished his pal nothing but the best:
Cole on Tanaka not being back and heading back to Japan: "There's nothing that Mas doesn't bring to the table that isn't anything short of world class." Said "I've been texting him quite a bit lately...I do miss him a little bit. I would love to play with him again."

Gerrit Cole said he’s now a huge Rakuten Golden Eagles fan so he can follow his former teammate Masahiro Tanaka.
