Welcome to the weekend folks. We’re a week out from exhibition games starting, and there should be plenty of intrigue to carry your attention through at least a handful of them before we all inevitably just want the season to start. Things became even more interesting last night when the Yankees made the decision to bring back Brett Gardner, and we’re still covering all the ripple effects of that move on the site today.
Josh starts us off with a look at where Gardner’s playing time could come from in 2021 and why it doesn’t have to eat up Clint Frazier’s starts — but there’s still concern that it will anyway. Tom explores the non-roster invitees that the Yankees have on the position player side, and who could win out with one more roster spot taken now. John covers your reactions to the Gardner re-sign and has a poll for your opinion on the move, while Andrés wraps things up by arguing that Yankee fans should prepare for some regression in DJ LeMahieu’s MVP candidate form.
1. Now that we pretty much know all of the roster, who would be your preseason guess for team MVP this year?
2. Do you think Clint Frazier’s playing time will get undercut by Brett Gardner returning?
