Simple question - was this a good year for the Yanks or a bad year? Made it to the playoff game; overcame Covid IL stints; Stanton and Judge were healthy all season; Cortez is a pleasant surprise; Gil may be ready for the team next season; Severino also looks okay for next season; Loisaga can become our closer; Torres looked good at 2nd base; All good things for sure.
On the other hand: Boone is a bad manager, again.; Sanchez is a liability behind the plate and at bat; Higgy really is only a backup catcher; Voit is too injury prone; DJ had an off year and with Torres at second where does he fit next season: Gardy has to retire; Hicks is still hurt; Florial may never be MLB ready; German and Monty are bottom rotation guys; Cashman's Kluber/Taillon experiment was a bust; Britton is cooked; Chapman is nothing special as a closer; Rizzo will be too costly to keep; Cole may truly be a #3 without spidertack;
To me the negatives outweigh the positives. All season long I was convinced that we could not win a one game wild card playoff - That was certainly true although I will argue that Phil Nevin did not help the team either.
Boone's contract is up and he sounds like he expects to be fired. Not since 1922 has a manager kept his job when he has not made it to the ws in the prior 5 years - hope Hal knows that record and lets Boone walk. Ditto with firing Cashman, finding a new GM and rebuilding quickly, even with staying under the cap. I am certain it can be done, that we can add a ss, a decent guy at 1b, one more starter and trade a lot of guys away to then bring up the kids and see what they can do. No more long term contracts, less computers and more hit and run, etc.
