After narrowly crossing the finish line on the final day, the Yankees have earned a brief respite today. The Wild Card Game looms tomorrow in Boston, where the Yankees just pulled off a thrilling sweep a week ago. Today, however, will be a day of rest and travel, a day to gear up for the season-defining match in front of the team. They did just enough to avoid the chaos of a game 163 today, so hopefully they can take full advantage of the day off.
While the team takes a well-deserved break, you can check out some articles that we’ve prepared for your leisure. Matt gives an in-depth preview for the Wild Card Game, digging into Gerrit Cole and Nathan Eovaldi’s numbers as the presumptive starting pitchers. Peter dives into the potential Wild Card Game roster, and attempts to figure out who fills the holes that DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit have left. John examines the history of do-or-die postseason games between the Yankees and Red Sox, Jon ponders what Luke Voit’s fate will be after another IL stint robs him of playing time, and I’ll roll out the call for the first of hopefully several postseason mailbags.
Today’s Matchup:
Off-day.
