We only had two full days without baseball, but they felt a lot longer. Regardless, the gap ends tonight as the Braves and Astros kick off the 117th edition of the World Series. Game 1 will be at Minute Maid Park in Houston; the Astros will aim for their second World Series title in five years (perhaps the first without cheating) while the Braves will try to notch just the franchise’s second championship since moving to Atlanta in 1966. It’s been 26 years since Mark Wohlers closed out the Braves’ lone title in Atlanta, and it came 361 days before a different Wohlers pitch launched a better dynasty.
Today on the site, Jon will look back on Sparky Lyle’s Cy Young-winning season in 1977 and Peter will review Miguel Andújar’s troubled 2021. Later on, Esteban will research what the Yankees could learn from the Astros and Braves’ rosters, and Andrés will address the dumb Joey Gallo pants controversy*.
*Man, how is that a real sentence?
Fun Questions:
1. Yesterday’s question focused on the World Series as a whole, but who do you think will take Game 1 between Houston and Atlanta?
2. What’s your favorite all-time dumb Yankees “controversy?”
