It was a busy day of baseball news yesterday. The Yankees fired three coaches, the Cardinals surprisingly moved on from manager Mike Shildt despite their 17-game winning streak in September, and the NLCS matchup was finally settled in a classic Giants/Dodgers grudge match (albeit one that ended in controversy).
Anyway, there’s no further National League fun to discuss today as the stupid American League Championship Series is the only action afoot. The Astros host the Red Sox in Houston, seeking revenge on the team that in 2018 kept them from reaching three World Series in a row from 2017-19. Let’s go meteor!
On the site today, Jesse will review the Yankees’ three biggest surprises of 2021 and Andrés will make the case that the Yankees might just have to settle for Gary Sánchez in 2022. Later on, Peter will try to figure out what the hell happened to DJ LeMahieu, and Esteban will wrap up the Hispanic Heritage Month series with a look back at everyone’s favorite Yankee guitarist/switch-hitter: Bernie Williams.
Fun Questions:
1. Should check-swings be reviewable?
2. Do you agree with the Yankees’ decision to dismiss Phil Nevin, Marcus Thames, and P.J. Pilittere? Why or why not?
