Yankees add LeMachine and the Klubot: PSA Community Reaction

Months of waiting patiently have finally paid off for Yankees fans yesterday, as the front office decided that all Yankee beat writers were not allowed to take their Friday night off, re-signing second baseman and MVP finalist DJ LeMahieu and adding two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber.

The day began with fans learning that DJ LeMahieu will continue to don the pinstripes for the foreseeable future (and probably for the rest of his career, too!) after agreeing to a six-year, $90 million contract with the Yankees yesterday. Needless to say, after a winter filled with news that the two sides were at a stalemate, the Pinstripe Alley comment sections were filled with excitement for everyone’s favorite robot.

Many fans — myself included — marveled at what seemed to be a team-friendly deal, as the $15 million AAV was much lower than many had expected (and we all know the AAV is what’s most important to the luxury tax-conscious Yankees).

Others, however, didn’t waste any time celebrating the return of the Yankees’ best hitter over the last two seasons, and instead fretted over the team’s need to add starting pitching.

Well, it looks like Brian Cashman was listening to SJComic, because just a few minutes later, at 7:25 EST, Jeff Passan tweeted that the Yankees had signed Corey Kluber, aka the Klubot. Apparently the Evil Empire took some inspiration from the Confederacy of Separatist Systems and decided that droids are this winter’s market inefficiency. Our commenters seemed to be just as excited, if not more so, for this move than they were for LeMahieu’s return.

While I might not go so far as guaranteeing a World Series, this move definitely adds a potential ace to the top of the rotation, albeit one that has hardly pitched in the last two seasons due to injuries.

It was a big day yesterday, Yankees fans. How do you feel about these moves?
