When last we saw these Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees were clubbing them back into third in the AL East in one of the most lopsided series you’ll see. The boys from Buffalo are looking for some revenge tonight in game one of a three-game set from upstate New York.

With the playoffs starting in a week, the Yankees have juggled their pitching rotation to set Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka up for the first two games of the postseason. Michael King will be the first of several pitchers we’re likely to see in tonight's pseudo-bullpen game. King’s been pretty bad across 24 innings this year, with a 6.75 ERA and 5.72 FIP. He has worked three or more innings in 75% of his outings this year, so expect him to be around that number tonight.

Matt Shoemaker goes for the Blue Jays, in his first start after shoulder inflammation cost him a month on the IL. He’s also struggled in 2020, with a FIP more than 25% higher than his ERA, indicating he’s pitched worse than his topline numbers would indicate. We could be in for a high-scoring affair tonight.

To that end, the Yankees have set a pretty powerful lineup, foregoing their traditional lineup structure by stacking five right-handers at the top. DJ LeMahieu, Aaron Judge, Luke Voit and Giancarlo Stanton all have a wRC+ above 150, so Shoemaker could be in trouble early.
