The Yankees are in the home stretch now. Ten games remain before the postseason begins, and the team is in decent standings in the playoff picture, but could stand to gain some ground. Enter the Boston Red Sox, a team in shambles from it’s former contending status and currently residing in the cellar of the American League. There’s no bigger mismatch for the Yankees to draw on their schedule at the moment, and they’ll look to make the most of it.
Jordan Montgomery will be on the mound for New York, and he’s looking to establish some consistency ahead of the postseason. Monty was efficient in his last outing, tossing 5.2 innings against the Orioles while striking out a career-high nine batters, but his previous two outings were ugly to say the least. He’s in the mix for a potential postseason start, and he can boost his odds with another strong performance tonight.
Martin Perez won’t be worried about the postseason, as Boston is nearing their official elimination, but he’s been arguably the Red Sox’ most consistent starter this season. Perez is good for a solid five or six innings nearly every outing, and while his 4.33 ERA is well below his 5.14 FIP he’s managed to limit the damage whenever he’s on the mound. He’ll have his hands full trying to contain a Yankees offense that just bombarded the Blue Jays with a historic amount of home runs.
Speaking of the offense, here are your lineups for today’s game:
First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST, and you can catch the action live on YES locally or on MLB.tv out-of-market. You can also listen to the broadcast on WFAN or WADO.
