What a display we were treated to last night. It’s hard to see the Yankees topping that offensive outburst, but with Aaron Judge back in the lineup, I wouldn’t put it past them. The Yankees can widen their newly-acquired second-place lead in the division with a win tonight.
Gerrit Cole takes the mound, at it appears he’s starting to find his stride this season. He was basically unhittable last time out, twirling a 2-hit complete game (seven inning) shutout, striking out nine Orioles. It’s interesting the Kyle Higashioka will catch him for the third straight game, this is a development worth keeping an eye on for the rest of the year. On the season, Cole is 5-3 with a 3.20 ERA, 4.25 FIP, 1.017 WHIP, and 79 strikeouts in 59 innings.
Cole’s opponent is Tanner Roark. The Yankees will be happy to see him, as he was the pitcher on record in the final game in Buffalo that started the current winning streak. For the year, Roark is 2-1 with a 5.60 ERA, 6.82 FIP, and 1.726 WHIP in 35.1 innings.
One of the big baseball boys makes his return to the lineup while another gets the day off. Today marks the long-awaited return of Aaron Judge to the lineup, though Giancarlo Stanton will get the night off after returning from the injured list yesterday.
As for the visitors, the Blue Jays are still without breakout performer Teoscar Hernández, but return the same lineup from last night to play in tonight’s game.
