If there’s anything that can wash the taste of last night’s loss out of our collective mouths, it’s a sweep of a doubleheader in Tampa today. The Yankees will get a chance to do just that, starting by sending their $324 million man to the mound for game one.
Gerrit Cole boasts a 2.55 ERA in the early going, even though we haven’t quite seen his best fastball command just yet. The ability to work the heater up in the zone is critical to Cole’s success, and if he does that today it’ll be awfully difficult for a pretty underpowered Rays lineup to manage much against him.
The Rays will counter with their own excellent starter (and former Pirate!) in Tyler Glasnow. He had an excellent 2019 before being shut down by injuries, managing a 1.78 ERA and 2.26 FIP. He pitched well against the Yankees, striking out nine against two walks in 5.1 IP.
