The Yankees’ first of these special 2020 doubleheader seven inning games did not go as planned. J.A Happ got crushed and the bullpen didn’t do much better as the Yankees fell 11-7.
Now, it’s time for the second game of the day, and it’ll be a little more normal, as the Yankees will be actually the road team in a game on the road.
Jonathan Loaisiga will be the pitcher tasked with starting the second game. This will be his third appearance but second start of the season. Considering that Aaron Boone said the second game’s starter decision was going to be made on how the first one played out, don’t expect anything more than a bullpen game in this one.
On the mound for the Phillies will be talented righthander Aaron Nola. He’s only made one start so far in 2020, a 5.2 IP performance against Miami. He allowed four earned runs in that outing, but struck out seven against just one walk. Nola’s been one of the better pitchers in the NL over the past three years - and his repertoire is similar to a matured Clarke Schmidt - but today will be his first-ever start against the Yankees.
