MLB: New York Yankees-Workouts Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

In a normal season, we would be spending this week recapping the MLB trade deadline. This year, however, with a short season and a late start, the non-waiver deadline moved back to August 31. Instead of closing the book on the manic period of constant roster moves, we now get to begin our trade coverage. That brings us to this week’s FanPost Friday prompt:

Who is the Yankees’ best trade chip?

This summer, teams can only trade players on their 60-man extended pool. The Yankees have some attractive players in that pool, and they might be able to net them what they need at the deadline. You figure the Bombers will look for pitching, because A) J.A. Happ looks broken, among other problems with the pitching staff, and B) they always look for pitching.

The Yankees could move top prospects such as Deivi Garcia and Clarke Schmidt, or perhaps the perpetually blocked Clint Frazier. Maybe they decide to trade Mike Ford or Thairo Estrada, position players with no path to regular playing time. Miguel Andujar always finds himself in trade rumors, too. Write up who you consider their best trade chip, and we’ll feature one of the submissions on the front page on Friday.

How will we select which FanPosts to promote to the front page? Some of it will be subjective. If you follow our tips, you should find yourself on the right track. We will also be looking for FanPosts with comments and recommendations. Depending on the number of responses we get, receiving some recs on your post could separate your FanPost from the crowd. Additionally, if your post has a number of comments then it may have sparked some worthwhile discussions. These are just a few things we’ll be looking for when we decide which post(s) to promote on the front page. We are always on the lookout for new talent, and the FanPost section can be a great way to get our attention.

Submit your answer in the FanPost section before Friday (August 7th) for your post to be considered.
