It feels like it’s been ages since we had Yankee baseball, as we last saw the team on Thursday afternoon, before a rash of COVID-19 tests postponed the planned series with the Mets. New York’s finally back in action tonight, in Atlanta to take on old rivals the Braves.
We have a fun pitching matchup tonight, as Gerrit Cole takes the hill for the Yankees, and Ian Anderson, the Braves #2 prospect, makes his major-league debut. You all know about Cole, but Anderson had a great run in Double-A last year, with a 2.68 ERA and 31.8% K%, before struggling in making the jump to Triple-A. He’ll sit around 93/94 with his fastball, and like Cole, has taken to working up in the zone to generate swings and misses.
Offensively, two of the best hitters in the game return from IL stints, with Aaron Judge batting second for the Yankees and Ronald Acuña Jr. leading off for Atlanta. There’s intrigue on both sides of the ball tonight, it should be a fun game.
