As the season ramps up and the playoffs approach, Pinstripe Alley is looking to increase our coverage. To keep up with the demand for the best free Yankees content on the web, we’re hoping to add to our staff.
Incoming writers will be expected to contribute three articles per week, and will be paid a monthly stipend. These can be original content, like analysis pieces and editorials, game recaps, or a combination of both. If you’re interested in joining the Pinstripe Alley writing staff, we have a simple application process. We ask that you submit a writing sample addressing the following prompt:
- How should the Yankees approach the MLB Trade Deadline?
We also ask that you include a topic that you would like to pitch as an article, so we can get an idea for the type of content you would like to contribute. Articles should run between 500-1000 words.
Our deadline is 11:59 PM on Friday, August 28.
How to Apply
- Submit your article as a FanPost - If you’re already a member of the PSA community, go ahead and send in your submission as a FanPost. Please indicate at the top of the post that you would like to be considered for a writing position. If you’re new and want to get familiar with the community, the registration form can be found at the bottom of each page.
- Send us an email - Send us your article to pinstripealleyblog [at] gmail [dot] com. Please include “New Writer Application” in the subject line. We prefer .docx or .pdf attachments, but you can also send us your article in the body if that presents hurdles.
Who Should Apply?
In general, we look for Yankees fans with unique voices and a command for persuasive, cogent arguments. Familiarity with data provided by FanGraphs, Statcast, and similar databases are a plus. Demonstrating the ability to incorporate that source material will put your post at an advantage.
We’re especially interested in applications from women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and anyone without traditional writing backgrounds. If you don’t think you have the experience, go ahead and try us.
Some writers we like include: Lindsey Adler, Jay Jaffe, Bradford William Davis, Meg Rowley, Shakeia Taylor, Ben Lindbergh, Spencer Hall, Tom Ziller, and Craig Calcaterra, to name a few. If you like what they write, we’re probably a good fit.
The Pinstripe Alley team is composed of a group of incredibly talented and hard-working Yankees fans. If that sounds like a fun environment to you, please consider applying. We are excited to welcome a few new members!
Vox Media is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to building a safe, inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds. Everyone is encouraged to apply, including women, LGBTQ people, people of color, and people with disabilities.
