The Yankees have a chance to finish the sweep and bury the Red Sox tonight. That sounds pretty good to me! To get it done, they’ll have to win a battle of the left-handers, as Jordan Montgomery squares off against Martín Pérez.
For Montgomery, Monday’s outing represents his fourth start of the season, and his second against Boston. The 27-year-old has pitched to a 5.17 ERA (5.11 FIP) over 15.2 innings, but a bad start against Philadelphia skews that. He had success against the Red Sox in his season opener, limiting their lineup to one run across 5.2 innings. A sequel to that performance, or his strong start against Atlanta, would be appreciated.
As for the Red Sox, Pérez will make his fifth start of the season. The 29-year-old stands out as one of the few bright spots in Boston’s pitching staff. He owns a 3.38 ERA (3.93 FIP) across 21.1 innings. The Yankees didn’t see Pérez last time out.
The Bombers have an interesting lineup, with Miguel Andújar making his return. He will also play left field, with Clint Frazier roaming right field. Erik Kratz takes on the catching duties while Gary Sánchez gets a half day off as the designated hitter.
Rivalry series finale coming your way.
