Options During This Time of Injury

The Yankees have depth, there is no doubt about that. Even with all of the injuries that the Yankees have dealt with recently, Boone still has difficult decisions to make every day in regards to playing time. With three of our best hitters going down there is an opportunity to sort out some of the depth and figure out what the organization is working with not only for 2020 but beyond. So how do we get all of these players regular playing time while still fielding the best team possible? I decided to look into this good problem a little deeper. This is a 5-game lineup rotation I have come up with. While this does not need to be stuck to as a strict schedule (due to pitching matchups, future injuries, etc), think of this as more an exercise on how to split playing time.

This plan would keep hitters fresh while also putting out solid lineups every day. I have ensured the best players are playing four out of five games while still getting regular rest. This is important because with the new playoff structure almost guaranteeing us a spot, being well rested and healthy is the main goal. I have also ensured that there are two plus defensive outfielders in every lineup. I went with Wade at shortstop when Andujar is at third because Wade has superior range to Gleyber, hopefully helping to mask some of Andujar’s defensive liability. Andujar, Ford and Andujar have all proved what they can do with regular at bats but they have also shown how difficult it is to perform without seeing live pitching regularly. Obviously this plan changes once Judge, Stanton and DJL recover but until then the Yankees should use this as an opportunity to sort through their depth.

Let me know who you would like to see receive more or less playing time in the comment section.
