It’s never a bad time to beat Boston, and the Yankees did just that on Friday. The Bombers arrived home for their season opener and took down the Red Sox 5-1, powered by a trio of blasts from their lineup.
Winner of the Game
Aaron Judge set the tone for this game early. After the Yankees fell behind 1-0 in the third inning, Judge took the lead away in one swing. He barreled a Ryan Weber offering over the wall in right-center, just past the leaping attempt of Jackie Bradley Jr. The two-run blast gave the Yankees a lead that they wouldn’t surrender for the rest of the night.

Honorable mention: Jordan Montgomery, for winning his first game in over a year. Brett Gardner, for getting his first hit of the season in style with a two-run home run in the eighth.
Loser of the Game
The Yankees didn’t do much wrong in this game. Montgomery did allow a solo home run to Michael Chavis, but otherwise was effective in his season debut. Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, and eliminated himself on the basepaths when he got caught stealing on a hit-and-run play. Stanton’s been otherwise great this season, so if this is a bad night for him the Yankees could live with that.
