With Opening Day tomorrow, it’s time to finally share our 2020 Yankees and MLB predictions. I’ve been waiting to write this post since March, so it comes with a whole bunch of emotions. Better late than never, right?
Jake has somehow won the last four years in a row, although last year he finished in a draw atop the stands with Josh. Will this finally be the year someone legitimately dethrones him? I hope so. His reign of terror must stop.
As always, feel free to play along with us by sharing your predictions in the comments section!
2020 AL Standings

We see the Yankees and Rays in a fight for the AL East. That sounds about right. Not a whole lot changes across the the division, either, but that in itself is interesting. The Astros lost the best pitcher on the planet to their primary postseason rival, and they were busted in the offseason for an elaborate sign-stealing scandal. The bad PR happened, but we don’t buy that it will cost them much on the field.
2020 NL Standings

As it has been in recent years, the NL East looks to be the most competitive division in baseball. The NL Central is probably the most difficult to predict, but that’s a race to the bottom. And, for the eleventieth (read: eighth) year in a row, we pick the Dodgers to win the West.
Judge & Torres HR, Stanton G, Cole & Paxton ERA, Sanchez G, Green K

For some context, I recommend this CBS Sports article on statistical benchmarks in a 60-game season. We expect Aaron Judge to have a monster season, and for Cole to pitch pretty darn well. As for, Gleyber Torres’ power output our writers feel like it’s legitimate. I would sign up for all of these to happen.
Yankees leaders: AVG, HR, ERA, and WAR

A tie for ERA leader? A tie for ERA leader! For the record, we all agreed to go for relievers here ahead of time. May Aroldis Chapman and Zack Britton keep a 0.00 ERA all season long,
MLB leaders: AVG, HR, ERA, and WAR

Wow, even more ties. I blame Ryan for abstaining. He threw my numbers off. Kidding, of course, but these all check out. Except for Tom. He really believes in Anthony Rendon.
Most team wins & losses, first manager fired

The Tigers and Orioles are going to be pretty terrible this year, aren’t they?
MLB Awards

Find someone who believes in you the way Tom believes in Anthony Rendon. I also support a unanimous AL Cy Young win for Gerrit Cole.

Gavin Lux will win the NL RoY Award, but only after the Dodgers manipulate his service time to steal an extra year of control.
Playoffs?!

Only Josh picked against the Yankees in the World Series. Blame him if it happens. I also should mention that Dan Carty is currently vacationing with his family (social distancing, of course) and without WiFi. Cooper, who will join the staff on August 1, participated too.
