The Yankees will play their final exhibition game ahead of Thursday’s scheduled season opener as Joe Girardi and the Philadelphia Phillies visit the Bronx. New York will look to enter the season on a positive note, coming off a two-game weekend demolition of the crosstown rival Mets.
Getting the start for the Yankees is top prospect Deivi Garcia. The 21-year-old right-hander struggled a bit way back during spring training, but certainly has a chance to impress and make an impact in the bigs during this shortened season. Garica turned heads last year, when he struck out 165 batters across 111.1 minor-league innings.
The Phillies will start Vince Velazquez, a talented right-hander who seemingly hasn’t fully reached his promise. You may remember Velazquez for his spectacular 16-strikeout, three-hit shutout in April of 2016, but he’s managed just an 87 ERA+ over the previous three seasons combined.
Here’s a look at the lineups:

It should be good, and strange, to see Girardi and Didi Gregorius return to New York for the first time as the Yankees’ opponents, as Dellin Betances this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 EST and can be seen on the YES Network, and streamed on MLB.tv.
