Yankees summer camp game thread: James Paxton vs. Jonathan Loaisiga

The intrasquad games keep rolling along, and we’ve got some fresh arms for today’s matchup. James Paxton and Jonathan Loaisiga will get the starts on the mound for the Bombers and Yankees, respectively.

Paxton was expected to miss the opening month of the season back in April, but the suspended season gave him plenty of time to recover and get in form to begin the year in the rotation. Paxton was announced as the second starter behind Gerrit Cole for the opening series against Washington, and a couple of tune-up games in camp couldn’t hurt his preparation. Loaisiga, meanwhile, is an underdog candidate for the fifth starter job and has a decent chance of landing in the bullpen should he not win the role.

Today’s game also features the return of Aaron Judge, who sat out several days with a stiff neck. Judge is always someone to monitor whenever health issues arise, but it seems that the Yankees were fortunate that this was a minor issue this time.
