That’s a wrap for the Yankees in the 2020 MLB Draft. After going for two position players with their first and third round picks, they added some pitching depth in the fourth round. New York selected Beck Way with the 129th overall pick, a right-hander out of Northwestern Florida State.
Way is an interesting arm to grab, a junior college pitcher with a decent amount of upside. Ironically, he may be one of the few players to have gotten more playing time this year than in the past. Way threw 40 innings this season and absolutely dominated in them, racking up 58 strikeouts and pitching to a 0.67 ERA. He threw just 20.1 innings at Belmont Abbey in 2018 and added 13.2 innings in the Cape Cod league last year.
It’ll be interesting to see if they can convince Way to forego his commitment to SEC powerhouse LSU next season. If they can, they’ll be getting a pitcher who already features two plus pitches in his fastball and changeup, with a developing slider lagging behind.
You can read our full write-up on Way here, and as always we want your opinion on the pick. Did the Yankees make a good selection with their final pick, or was there someone you preferred? Vote in the poll below, and let us know what you think in the comment section.
