2020 MLB Draft: Start time, how to watch, live streaming, draft order

Here’s everything you need to know to follow this year’s virtual draft

The Yankees have the 17th pick in each round from rounds four through 40 of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

Major League Baseball’s annual first-year player draft gets underway tonight. The event was always going to be a break from tradition, held live from the College World Series in Omaha instead of MLB Network studios. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, however, MLB will host a virtual draft, similar to those held by the WNBA and the NFL.

The pandemic has also contracted the 2020 draft, with only five rounds rather than 40. Because they signed Gerrit Cole, a qualified free agent, the Yankees have three picks this year. They will select in the first round (28th overall), third round (99th overall), and fourth round (129th overall).

Here’s how you can tune into the draft and follow along:

Wednesday, June 10: Round 1 and Competitive Balance Round A

Time: 7:00 PM ET

TV: MLB Network, ESPN

Online: MLB.com

Thursday, June 11: Rounds 2-5

Time: 5:00 PM ET

TV: MLB Network, ESPN2

Online: MLB.com

The Detroit Tigers have the first pick, followed by the Baltimore Orioles, Miami Marlins, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, and Los Angeles Angels. The Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets, and Milwaukee Brewers round out the top 20. Then the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers close out Round 1. The Houston Astros, of course, surrendered their first-round pick as punishment for the sign-stealing scandal.

Competitive Balance Round A features the Orioles, Pirates, Royals, Diamondbacks, Padres, Rockies, Indians, and Rays.

Pinstripe Alley will have live coverage throughout the entire draft, so check back often. Let’s find out who we’ll welcome as the newest members of the Yankees!
